Porphyria Open Day at Salford Royal

On Saturday 23rd June, Salford Royal hosted a National Pathology Year (NPY 2012) Porphryria Open Day.

40 members British Porphyria Association (BPA) patient's support group were in attendance and were given presentations on the new National Acute Porphyria Service and novel treatments for Erythropoietic Protoporphyria (EPP). 

Cliinical biochemists from Saflord gave tours of the specialist porphyria and main clinical biochemistry laboratories, and manned the NPY stand alongside the BPA's while nurses from Salford's Photobiology Unit demonstrated sun protection techniques and advised how photosensitive patients can stay Vitamin D replete.

2012 Summer Meeting at Chorley (2)

The ACB summer regional meeting will be on Thursday 12th July 2012 at Chorley District Hospital. The theme of the meeting is on Mothers and Babies and will include presentations on: the expanded Newborn Screening programme, an update on Ante-natal Screening, Paediatric cases and pre-eclampsia markers (TBC).

Congrats Sally!

Congratualtions to Dr Sally Hanton for winning the ACB Medal Award at Focus 2012 for her talk "An enzymatic assay for the detection of glycolic acid in serum as a marker of ethylene glycol poisoning".

Focus 2012 in Liverpool

This week sees the Focus 2012 conference return to Liverpool, at the Albert Dock Arena/BT Convention centre. 

The conference will run from Monday April 30th until Thursday 3rd May

2012 Spring ACB NW Meeting

The next ACB North West Regional meeting will be Friday 23rd March at the Education Centre, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool.

The theme of the meeting is on Infectious Disease and will also be our Annual General Meeting (AGM). Directions and a final programme will be distributed within the next couple of weeks.

The AGM will commence at 3:45 pm. Please find the agenda here.

We are also looking for volunteers to fill a number of positions on the committee, please see the Call for Nominations document.  If you are interested in any of the posts, nominations should be returned to Fiona Ivison by the 9th March 2012.
